The Platform team has worked together for a number of years. The three Principals are all native Houstonians and are active in the community.
Fred Lummis, Chairman co-founded Platform and serves as Chairman. Prior to Platform, Fred co-founded The CapStreet Group where he managed its private equity investments. Fred has previous private equity experience with Duncan, Cook & Co. and Texas Commerce Bank. He also has significant operating experience having served as Chairman and CEO of American Tower Corporation, Advantage Outdoor Company and Cardtronics. Fred serves on the Board of Directors of Avalon Advisors, Dynamic Glass, Encino Energy, and SmartSky Networks and is involved with Cadence Bank. In addition, Fred was on the Board of the Company's investments in Evergreen Industrial Services and TRE Financial Services. Fred also serves as a trustee for Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Woodberry Forest School, and is currently Chairman of the Board of Baylor College of Medicine. He is also an advisory director of Amegy Bancorporation and director of Houston Baseball Partners. Fred received his BA from Vanderbilt University and his MBA from The University of Texas at Austin. Fred and his wife, Claudia, have three grown children. He is an avid tennis player and baseball fan.
Fred Brazelton, CEO, co-founded Platform and serves as Chief Executive Officer. Prior to Platform, he was a partner of The CapStreet Group, where he worked since 2000. Prior to joining CapStreet, Fred worked for the private equity firms of Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst and Willis, Stein & Partners after starting his career in investment banking at CS First Boston. Fred serves on the Board of Directors of ALM First, Beneplace, Dynamic Glass, Encino Energy, Envoy Mortgage, Expedition Water Solutions and Firestone & Robertson Distilling. In addition Fred was on the Board of the Company’s investments in Avalon Advisors, Evergreen Industrial Services, Landmark Aviation, Santa Barbara Tax Products Group and TRE Financial Services. He received his BBA from the Business Honors Program at The University of Texas at Austin and his MBA from Stanford University. Fred is active within the Houston community and serves on the Boards of various organizations including the St. Francis Episcopal Day School, the WorkFaith Connection and the Welch Foundation and was the former Chairman of the Board of the Small Steps Nurturing Center. Fred is an active member of Grace Bible Church and enjoys bird hunting, fly fishing and coaching sports for his three kids.
Brad Morgan, President, co-founded Platform and serves as President. Prior to Platform, he was a Vice President of The CapStreet Group, where he worked since 2003. Brad began his career in investment banking with Credit Suisse First Boston working in the Financial Sponsors / Leveraged Finance Group in New York. Brad serves on the Board of Directors of Beneplace, Dynamic Glass, Evergreen/North American Industrial Services, Expedition Water Solutions, Firestone & Robertson Distilling and GHR and is involved with Cadence Bank and Encino Energy. In addition, he was on the Board of the Company’s investments in Santa Barbara Tax Products Group and TRE Financial Services and was involved with Avalon Advisors and Landmark Aviation. Brad graduated Phi Beta Kappa from The University of Texas with a BA in the Plan II Honors Program and a BBA in finance. Brad is active with a number of organizations, including the Children's Museum of Houston (Board, Executive Committee, Finance and Investments Committees); The Kinkaid School (Alumni Association Board-President, Advancement Committee); The University of Texas Masters of Science in Finance, (Advisory Council). Brad has three young children who keep him very busy and he enjoys travel and all types of sports.
Jeremy Newsom, Executive Vice President, joined the company in 2017. At Platform, Jeremy will be responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and executing new investment opportunities and will serve on its investment committee. Prior to joining Platform, Jeremy was an Executive Vice President with Amegy Bank. At Amegy, Jeremy most recently led the Corporate Banking division with a focus on publicly traded, large middle market and private equity sponsored companies. Jeremy was responsible for oversight of the origination, monitoring and servicing of a $1B+ loan portfolio. The client base was Texas focused and covered diverse industries, such as manufacturing, industrial services, business services, food/beverage, waste and many others. Jeremy held multiple roles with Amegy since joining the bank in 2000, including Credit Analyst, Fixed Income Trader and Commercial Real Estate Lender. Additionally, Jeremy served as a voting member of the Senior Loan and Credit Transition Committees. Jeremy received his BBA in Finance from Texas A&M University and his MBA from the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University. He has also received the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation..
Scott Nichols, Senior Vice President, joined the company in 2008. At Platform, Scott is on the Board of Directors of GHR, and is involved with Cadence Bank, Envoy Mortgage and Evergreen Industrial Services. In addition, Scott was involved in the Company’s investments in Avalon Advisors, Landmark Aviation, Santa Barbara Tax Products Group and TRE Financial Services. Scott was previously an Associate with a special situations advisory firm located in New York. He has provided assistance to clients in the areas of capital raising, due diligence and restructurings. Scott started his career working in the accounting practice at Deloitte & Touche, LLP. He is a Certified Public Accountant and received his BBA and MS degrees in accounting from Southern Methodist University. Scott enjoys playing tennis and golf in his spare time.
Vik Kalra, Vice President, joined the company in 2014. At Platform, Vik is on the Board of Directors of Beneplace and is involved with ALM First, Firestone & Robertson Distilling and SmartSky Networks. Vik previously worked as a Vice President for Parallel Investment Partners, a middle market private equity firm in Dallas. At Parallel, Vik was involved in sourcing, evaluating, structuring, managing and exiting several private equity investments. Before joining Parallel, Vik worked at Pacesetter Capital Group, a Dallas-based lower-middle market private equity firm where he helped execute the firm’s investment strategy. Prior to joining Pacesetter, Vik started his career as an associate consultant at Bain & Co. in their Dallas Office. Vik graduated Phi Beta Kappa from The University of Texas with a BA in the Plan II Honors Program and a BBA from the Business Honors Program. He received his MBA from Harvard Business School where he was a Toigo Fellow. Vik serves on the Advisory Board for UT’s Business Honors Program and is Treasurer for the HBS Club of Houston. A native Houstonian, Vik enjoys playing fantasy football and spending time with his wife and two young children.
Lucas Kuipers, Senior Associate, joined the company in 2014. At Platform, Lucas is involved with ALM First, Beneplace, Encino Energy and Expedition Water Solutions. In addition, Lucas was involved with the Company’s investment in Evergreen Industrial Services. Lucas previously worked as an Analyst in the investment banking group at Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co (TPH). While at TPH, Lucas focused primarily on merger and acquisition advisory and financing within the energy industry. Lucas received his BA from Rice University. Lucas enjoys all types of sports and exercise and is actively involved in the local community.
Ryan Howard, Associate, joined the Company in 2016. At Platform, Ryan is involved with Cadence Bank, Envoy Mortgage, Firestone & Robertson Distilling, GHR and SmartSky Networks. Ryan previously worked as an Analyst in the Natural Resources investment banking group at Goldman Sachs. While at Goldman, Ryan focused on capital raising and merger and acquisition advisory within the energy industry. Ryan received his BBA from Texas A&M University. Ryan enjoys weekend golf, budget international travel and annual hunting trips with the family.
Michael Marks, Associate, joined the Company in 2017. At Platform, Michael is involved with Beneplace and General Healthcare Resources. Michael previously worked as an Analyst in the Global Energy Investment Banking Group at Credit Suisse. While at Credit Suisse, Michael evaluated and executed capital market financings and M&A transactions across the oil and gas sector. Michael additionally worked as an Assurance Associate at Ernst & Young, auditing companies in the oil and gas sector. Michael is a Certified Public Accountant and earned his BBA and Master in Professional Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin. Michael enjoys traveling, recreational sports and spending time with friends and family.
John Montgomery, Associate, joined the company in 2016. At Platform, John is involved with Avalon Advisors, Dynamic Glass, Encino Energy and Expedition Water Solutions. John previously worked as an Analyst in the Global Energy Investment Banking Group at Credit Suisse. While at Credit Suisse, John evaluated and executed M&A transactions and capital market financings across the oil and gas sector. John graduated cum laude from Middlebury College, where he received his BA in International Politics and Economics. John enjoys traveling and is an avid skier and hunter.
Kathy Mattina, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer, began working with the company in 2007. Kathy was previously the Chief Financial Officer for the venture capital funds Triad Ventures I & II, AM Fund and Cogene Ventures II. She also served as the Chief Financial Officer of the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Kathy began her career at Arthur Anderson where she worked in the audit department. She is a Certified Public Accountant and received a BBA in accounting from the University of Texas at Austin. Kathy and her husband, Mike, have two children and enjoy traveling.
Ann Corrigan, Office Administrator, joined the company in 2011. Prior to working at Platform, Ann held various roles in accounting, marketing and training. At Platform, Ann manages the day-to-day operations of the firm and supports the flow of information to Platform’s investors. She received a BBA in marketing from Texas A&M University and earned her MBA from the University of St. Thomas. Ann enjoys playing tennis and spending time with family and friends.
Sloan Rueter, Office Assistant, joined the company in 2014. Prior to working at Platform, Sloan worked at Blue Bell Creameries in Brenham, Texas. Sloan received her BS from Texas A&M University where she received a distinguished student award from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and was involved with animal welfare groups such as Aggies for Animal Rescue and Aggie Guide Dogs Society. Sloan is a native Houstonian and enjoys running and spending time with family and friends.
